Starship EVO provides a vast pre-seeded galaxy for players to explore. It is based on a 2D grid map (however stars are positioned 3 dimensionally on it) . It is traversed with a Warp Core.

Contents[ | ]

The Starship EVO galaxy naturally contains star systems, which in themselves currently contain planets of multiple variants. In between are space stations guarded by space law enforcement, alongside NPC ships and Ring Habitats.

Systems[ | ]

Systems themselves vary in star color, planet makeup, alongside the smaller details such as ships and structures. The possible star colors one can find in the galaxy are as follows:

  • Blue
  • White
  • Yellow
  • Orange
  • Red

There is currently no variation in star size and no change in star density as you go further or nearer to the galactic core. This means that only main sequence stars and no other kinds like dwarfs, giants and stellar remenants exist. This may change in the future.

Stations[ | ]

Station 1080p

A randomly generated station

Stations are NPC controlled procedually generated hubs of activity generated in the vicinity of planets, which are guarded by space law enforcement patrols and have NPC ships fly in between them. They draw from a range of modules in a set style to generate the stations, and act as a hub for missions, alongside allowing the player to repair and refuel.

Habitats[ | ]

Ring 1080p

A ring habitat

The habitats are 22km diamater ring shaped space habitation, the interior of which contains grassy terrain with minimal flora (grass, flowers), some dirt patches, stony mountains, sandy beaches and lakes. There is currently no other variant of the ring habitats, and are the only natural source of gravity with exception to the tutorial station. The ground can be built on but not mined out currently, and the water has a basic buoyancy system in place. The habitat represents one of the few places currently where you can use hovercraft to their fullest extent.

Planets[ | ]

Space Station with Planets

See Planets.

Gas Giants[ | ]

Gas giants are a somewhat rarer though still oftenly seen planet type. They have no planned directly interactable content like terrestrial planets with the ring as a tech demo but instead will serve the purpose of fuel scooping from their atmospheres using the Fuel scoop brick. Unlike terrestrial planets, they always spawn with a ring of asteroids and may spawn with moons orbiting them. Gas giants themselves cannot be moons, and the only variation in gas giants themselves are their colours.

Travel[ | ]

Requirements[ | ]

Currently you can travel anywhere in the galaxy with a ship of any size, as long as you have a Warp Core, and a holomap linked to a ship core. On pressing H or interacting with the holomap you will see the galaxy map which you can interact with by bookmarking or plotting a route. Warp requires Power and needs to charge up before a ship is ready to warp. The amount of time warp travel takes only depends on how long it takes your computer to load the target system, and warp range is determined by the amount of cores a ship possesses alongside the ship's mass.

Visual[ | ]

The skybox of the galaxy changes as you travel as every star represents a physical location you can travel to. This means that if you travel into a denser part of the galaxy, the skybox will look denser, and vice versa.
